¿Qué es?

La otoescultura, o cirugía de las orejas, se realiza principalmente para reposicionar las orejas prominentes a una posición más cercana a la cabeza. Esta cirugía correctiva es extremadamente popular entre adultos y niños por igual. En niños se puede realizar desde los 5 años de edad, ya que a esta edad las orejas han alcanzado el crecimiento total.

Cuando el paciente es un niño, se sugiere emplear anestesia general para que el procedimiento no resulte traumático y doloroso. En caso de pacientes adultos resulta diferente, ya que se puede emplear anestesia local combinada con sedación, con el fin de que el paciente se encuentre despierto y sin dolor, pero relajado durante la cirugía.

La cirugía se realiza a través de una incisión en la parte posterior de la oreja con la finalidad de exponerla, se retira piel y el cartílago se modifica y dobla, o se retira hasta aproximarlo a la cabeza, además utilizando suturas permanentes para conservar la nueva posición deseada. Generalmente quedará una cicatriz discreta en la parte posterior de la oreja. La duración es de dos horas aproximadamente.

Candidatos

Los candidatos ideales para la otoplastia son aquellos individuos con orejas grandes o prominentes, lóbulos agrandados, orejas caídas (con las puntas que se pliegan hacia abajo y sobresalen hacia adelante), orejas en coliflor, orejas diferentes una de la otra y otros problemas que afectan el aspecto de las orejas.

Pueden reunir los requisitos para una otoplastia los niños mayores de cinco años y la mayoría de los adultos en buen estado de salud; sin embargo, existen algunos requisitos necesarios para que se apruebe la intervención en esa persona.

Post- cirugía

La otoplastia se considera una operación de nivel ambulatorio por lo cual los pacientes podrán regresar a su domicilio el mismo día de la operación únicamente con un vendaje, el cual deberá cubrir las orejas. El paciente experimentará dolor moderado que será controlado a través de analgésicos.

Se podrá reincorporar a sus actividades normales a los 3 días y deberá acudir a consulta a los 7 días para retirar el vendaje y realizar curación. Empleará una ballerina o banda para la cabeza por 2 semanas para la compresión suave con la finalidad de evitar complicaciones.
